The Social Walking Programme is going from strength to strength in 2025, with 27 participants currently taking part and feeling the benefits.
Launched in 2024 with the support of Healthy Ireland via the Dlr County Council, the programme’s primary objective is sustainability.
Proudly managed by Making Connections, this programme aims to increase the percentage of people aged 65+ engaging in one or more social leisure activity once a week, and to increase participants’ levels of positive mental health.
- “I love the programme, it is very beneficial and I wouldn’t get out the house without it. Great volunteers, who are friendly and most welcoming.” Joan, 77
- “This programme is exceptional for older people. Walking refreshers my mind and muscles and I don’t feel like I’m a burden” Eoin, 84
With growing interest and positive feedback, the Social Walking Programme continues to demonstrate the powerful impact of community-based initiatives on health and wellbeing.
